The judge ruled in favor of Tinker. There were seven votes for
Tinker and two against. Five out of seven thought it was against
the first amenment the other two thought it was against the
fourteenth amenment. The armbands were seen as symbolic
speech. This has helped many other students because they now
know that they have freedoms in school, but only if they do not
disrupt the school's environment.
