ABOUT

Tinker VS. Des Moines was about three students; John F. Tinker, a fifteen year old,

Christopher Eckhardt, a sixteen year old, who both attended highschools in Des

Moines. The third is Mary Beth Tinker, a thirteen year old, who went to a junior-

highschool. They all decided to wear armbands protesting the Vietnam War starting

on December sixteenth until New Years. But shortly after they made their plans to

wear the armbands, the school board found out and made a new rule that any

student who wears the armband will be asked to take it off but if they refused than

they would become suspended until the student decides to come back without

wearing the armband. Mary Beth and Christopher decide to wear the armbands

decpite the new rules. John wore it the next day. All three of them were suspended

and did not come back until New Years. This is similar to today because students

still feel like they have no rights in school. Like for instance, we have been having

issues lately with wearing I heart boobies bracelts to support breast cancer, they are

being told thay they cannot wear them some kids still continue to wear them. This is

a lot like wearing the armbands.
